Wednesday Poem Club: Why the Rape Joke Poem Makes Me Happy

Jessica has some interesting things to say about The Rape Joke by Patricia Lockwood. I love a good rape joke, myself. Like when Sarah Silverman joked that she was “raped by a doctor… which is bittersweet for a Jewish girl.” Ha!
I agree with Jessica–I like a GOOD rape joke, a joke that is clever, just like a joke on any other topic. I was also infuriated by Daniel Tosh’s “joke” that a female heckler should be raped. Of course, I find most of Tosh’s comedy offensive just because it’s lame. Read the Rape Joke poem, then join the conversation at Jessica’s Wednesday Poem Club on WordPress or the Poetry Salon on Facebook.

  1. 🙂 Thanks for reblogging! And, yeah, it occurred to me somewhere after 1000 words that basically all I have to say about the whole Daniel Tosh thing is, that was a lame “joke.” As I say to my kids, “jokes are supposed to be FUNNY.”
